Situated two miles west of Wells-next-the-Sea on the north Norfolk coast lies the impressive and privately owned Holkham Estate, complete with the magnificent Holkham Hall, Holkham Beach, cycle and boat hire, gift shop and Stables Cafe - a great family day out.

At the heart of the estate is the 18th century Palladian mansion, Holkham Hall, which is complemented by several other attractions - the Bygones Museum, a three-thousand-acre deer park with walks and a nature trail, cycle hire, activities on the mile-long lake and an opportunity to see the restoration of the 6½ acre walled gardens. Not to be missed too is the seemingly limitless expanse of sands, dunes and pine woods that form Holkham Beach and National Nature Reserve.

Privately owned and home the Coke family, a visit to Holkham Hall is a must. The family take great pleasure in sharing with visitors the wonderful collection of original furniture, art and statuary. Incredible architecture, impressive state rooms, the magnificence of the Marble Hall entrance with its fifty foot domed ceiling and walls of English alabaster and the opportunity to see some of the private accommodation are highlights of any visit.

In the adjacent courtyard, the Bygones Museum houses displays of over four thousand objects of domestic and agricultural memorabilia, including mechanical toys, vintage cars and tractors and household tools, all from the Victorian era to the mid-1900s, highlighting how we used to live and work.
