Brewers fayre has a whole new meaning in Norfolk!

Brewery manager Bruce Ash definitely has the edge when it comes to sniffing out a good pint. Woodfordes brewery has been at the centre of Bruce’s achievement over the years, as he has studied for the prestigious qualification as a beer Sommelier.


Most people would be green with envy thinking Bruce has one of the best jobs around – tasting beers and food, matching them up together and getting paid for it at the same time. Not only has his job led him to success as a manager at the brewery, but he has gained rare expertise and prestigious qualifications in his specialist subject. He knows just about everything there is to know about the different types of brews, ingredients, processes and of course which foods best compliment them. There are only a small number of people with these qualifications in Britain, something to be very proud of.

Although something of a joke amongst friends and customers, this job has been a serious business, taking a full year of studying to perfect, and involving advanced exams and intense tasting sessions to obtain the final qualifications. Luckily though this has not had an adverse effect on Bruce’s palette, he has kept his love and enjoyment of the amber nectar and thankfully for his friends this looks set to continue for the foreseeable future.
