Cromer

Cromer or originally Shipden as it was more commonly known, has roots going back to medieval times. Discovered in the 18th century by wealthy tourists looking for a good watering hole, it has grown its reputation as a great place to visit ever since. Tourism really took off when it was connected to London by the new fangled railway in 1877. Cromer has an air of being an Edwardian or even Victorian town and was also known as "Poppyland" during the boom times of the 1890's.

Cromer today still retains its historical charm yet is a modern, thriving coastal town with a reputation for catching top quality crabs that turn up on almost every menu. You can still watch the fishing boats as they set out and return with the catch each day. ...

There are a couple of museums, a Victorian pier complete with famous Pavilion Theatre, plenty of sand and some cliffs to explore, not to mention miles of walks and trails to follow. A gently undulating area, Cromer is great for walking and cycling being the start of the 56 mile, Weaver's Way path to Great Yarmouth.

The north Norfolk coastline is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has a rich diversity of wildlife, with saltmarshes and mudflats as a secure place for birds and animals to rest. Inland you can find huge areas of unspoilt countryside, plenty of agriculture and pine forests with the occasional town or village dotted around. The whole area is full of interesting things and places to see and visit such as Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park.
