Bird Watching

Norfolk has a rich mixture of arable land, broads, marshes, coastline and this all adds up to make the area the bird watching capital of Britain. There are many wildlife reserves, hides and trails to explore and of course the type of bird to twitch varies across the four seasons.

Spring is the peak time for migrations and an opportunity to see the rare Marsh Harrier dancing in the sky as it performs its display flight. As the year progresses, a boat trip along the boards might reveal a booming Bittern if you are really lucky and by July, the first returning waders begin to arrive.

Norfolk boasts over 420 different species of birds, some extremely rare and you might need to bring some binoculars and a good book to identify them. On a fairly typical day, it is possible to see in excess of 100 species if you get in the right locations.
